About
Paul Hayes is a diverse percussionist who has performed in a variety of musical settings including orchestral, concert band, jazz, percussion ensemble, world percussion and church music. While he performs in many different musical settings, he specializes in middle eastern frame drumming.
The Unfiltered Duo
The Unfiltered Duo is a percussion and clarinet duo consisting of members Paul Hayes (D.M.A. Student University of Memphis) and Amy Humberd (Clarinet Professor Lee University). Performing at various colleges and universities throughout the southeast, including Tennessee Tech, University of Northern Alabama, Southern Adventist University, and the University of Memphis, their repertoire consists of a combination of standard chamber music and world music using various Middle Eastern percussion instruments.
In 2021 they finished a commissioning project culminating in four new pieces for clarinet and percussion. This project consists of two new works for clarinet and marimba, a new piece for clarinet and riq, and a piece for clarinet and world percussion. Composers for this project include Andy Harnsberger, Josh Gottry, Marco Schirripa, and Richard Henson. They recently presented a lecture recital at The College Music Society’s Southern Convention.
